The understanding of the concepts of form, meaning and use is crucial for both translation and interpretation. In this presentation we will examine ways in which these three concepts can be employed to teach English as a second language. We will then apply the concepts to translation and interpretation by looking at how, within certain guidelines, starting from meaning and assessing how language is used by the target audience can help the translator or interpreter decide what from a written or spoken communication should take.
