Audiovisual Translation (AVT) offers a diverse range of career opportunities for translators and interpreters interested in expanding their services and applying their linguistic skills in new ways. This introductory presentation will provide a basic overview of the main areas of AVT, including subtitling, dubbing, closed captioning, audio description, dialogue list creation, and linguistic quality assurance. This presentation aims to demystify the field and describe potential pathways into this dynamic and highly specialized area of translation.

Drawing on real-world industry experience, the session will explore the types of work available, the skills and competencies required, and how existing translation and interpreting experience can transfer to audiovisual projects. Participants will also receive practical suggestions for upskilling, finding training resources, building a portfolio, and taking their first steps into the audiovisual localization industry.
